Buying your training head online:

all you need to know to make the

right choice

Today, you can find all kinds of training heads online, with prices between websites varying considerably.

So how do you find your way around what’s on offer? How do you know which training head to buy?

First, be aware that the price of a training head is based on various factors:

  • Hair length
  • Hair quality
  • Density
  • Cranial circumference of the training head

Many websites will offer you training heads at very attractive prices. It should be noted that the hair on training heads comes directly from women in India who shave their heads in temples as a tradition or collect their hair after brushing.

So pay attention to the quality of the hair on your training heads; make sure you are really being offered 100% natural hair. Price is often an indicator of quality; many distributors do not hesitate to create mixtures of synthetic and natural hair in order to keep prices low.

Also, there are several grades of hair quality, from grade A to grade E. A very low price may therefore be a sign of average or even poor quality.

You can also judge the quality of a training head by its length: the hair on a training head must be “full” at the ends, to avoid the well-known “rat tail” effect which is very unpleasant to work with, especially when practising buns.

It is therefore not uncommon to see websites advertising 50 or 60 cm training heads when in fact they are 5 to 10 cm shorter.

Lastly, one essential factor in on-head training is often overlooked: the cranial circumference of your training head.

The average cranial circumference is 53-54cm for women and 56-57cm for men.

Yet many retailers sell female heads with a cranial circumference of 48 cm, equivalent to that of a 2-year-old child.

This is an essential factor in ensuring your training head is as realistic as possible.

It is also essential to choose a training head with a realistic cranial circumference because this affects the density of hair on the head: the larger the skull, the more hairs it has. So pay attention to this factor to avoid ending up with a low-density training head.

At Exalto, we take special care over the quality of our training heads. They all have 100% natural hair, apart from our yak hair heads for flashy colours. We only select A or B grade hair depending on the product range.

We are completely transparent about the length of our products: the stated length is that of the hair at full width and does not include the ends, which are very often cut off before starting a course.

Finally, all our training heads have a realistic cranial circumference: 53cm for our basic heads – 54cm for our premium heads; this also partly explains their difference in price.

Today, we constantly strive to offer you the best value for money without ever compromising on the quality of our training heads.
